Lightroom profiles determine the way raw files are interpreted. These can be similar to the profiles that can be set in camera when shooting jpgs, or they can apply a more creative look.

Lightroom provides a wide variety of profiles that can be selected. Plus, you can create your own, or even purchase third party profiles. Many people are not even aware that this feature exists.
