Winter Bird Photography Trip Field Trip
Not all birds fly south for the winter. In fact, there are quite a few that hang around all year, and even some that migrate south to Minnesota. With the leaves off the trees, limited water sources, and cold temperatures, winter bird photography can make for some great photos.
The St. Croix River in Hudson WI is a great place to photograph Trumpeter Swans, Canadian Geese, and Ducks. We can get right down by the water and be relatively close to the birds.
We will begin with a short discussion at Dunn Brothers.
I will cover camera settings, technique, composition, tracking, and safety. Following the discussion, we will head over to the river to photograph the birds.
For this class you will need to be familiar with the different focus modes for your camera and have a lens with a focal length of at least 300mm. The are we will be visiting will be slippery, so please have Yak Trax or similar traction devices for your shoes/boots.

Camera Techniques for Nature Photography Field Trip
Today’s cameras are packed with great features and the optics have never been better. The issue is that there are so many features that they can be challenging and even intimidating to use. The result is many people leave their cameras in auto or program mode and don’t get the full benefit of their cameras.
We will be exploring the area around Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis. This location is great for all types of nature photography.
During the field trip, Don will discuss the various camera settings, where it makes sense to use them, and some other creative things that you can do with your camera. This will include topics such as exposure settings, lens selection, focusing, and camera modes.
For this class you will need a camera, tripod, sturdy footwear, your camera's manual, and (optionally) neutral density filters.

A Look into the World of Macro Photography
Come and explore the world of macro photography.
Macro photography can be challenging, but it’s a fantastic way to look at the world from a different point of view. Details begin to emerge that we never realized. This type of photography can make everyday objects extraordinarily interesting.
This presentation will cover macro photography basics and ideas on how to incorporate it into your setting. We will end with an opportunity for participants to ask questions and practice macro photography.
For this class you will need a DSLR or Mirrorless camera, one or more of the following (macro lens, extension tubes, close-up filters, or telephoto lens greater than 120mm), and a tripod.
