Winter 2020 - Mustangs and Collies Photography Workshop

Frozen Hiker Photography is once again teaming up with Twin Eyes Photography, and Shirley Rensink of Riverside Collies and Mustangs to offer this great opportunity. Shirley uses a method called positive reinforcement training to train the previously wild mustangs. The affection shown between the horses and Shirley definitely comes through as you capture photos of these magnificent animals.

Agenda:
Saturday (8:00AM):
We begin the day with an orientation session. During the session, we will discuss the agenda for the day, shooting tips, safety precautions, and how to act around the animals. We will also answer any questions that the participants may have.

Saturday (9:00AM - 11:00AM):
We will spend the morning photographing the horses in a variety of locations around the property. The locations will be dictated by the conditions.

Saturday (11:00AM - noon):
Review of the mornings photo shoot, and a quick image critique.
​
Saturday (noon - 1:00PM):
Lunch Break - Lunch is on your own. There are a number of great options near by, or you may bring your own lunch.

Saturday (1:00PM - 2:00PM):
We will photograph the dogs working with the sheep.
​
Saturday (2:00PM - 3:00PM)
Final photo shoot with the horses.
​
Saturday (3:00PM - 4:00PM)
Image editing with assistance from the instructors

Saturday (4:00PM - 5:00PM):
Final image review and slide show.

What You Will Need:
This workshop is about getting great shots of the horses and the dogs. To make the most of the workshop, the following is recommended:

Sturdy Tripod - primarily for the evening shoots.

Remote Shutter Release - wired tend to work best.

Polarizer - to help remove the glare from the water and rocks and to bring out the fall colors.

Medium and long telephoto lenses. You will want to have lenses that will provide a range between 70 and at least 400 mm. I typically carry a 70-200 and a 200-500. Tamron makes a very good 150-600.

Microfiber Towel.

Rain Protection for Camera - unless it is lightning, we will shoot in the rain or snow.

Rain Gear for you (in case of rain, or snow)

Boots that can deal with snow, mud and/or muck. Depending on conditions, the pasture may be pretty muddy.

Layered Clothing (this time of year the weather can be pretty unpredictable, gloves and a hat are always a good idea.)

Depending upon conditions, Don may lead a night photography outing after the completion of the workshop. For those wanting to participate, bring a wide angle lens.

Location:
The weekend takes place near Pepin Wisconsin. For those opting to stay overnight in the area, we recommend staying in nearby Red Wing MN.

Instructors:
This workshop is jointly led by Don Tredinnick of Frozen Hiker Photography along with Barb Thompson and Annette Thompson Williams from Twin Eyes Photography.

Details:
Workshop size is limited to 9 participants, this allows for a maximum 3 to 1 participant/instructor ratio.
​
The workshop will take place rain, snow or shine, so be sure to have the proper protection for yourself and your equipment.
Workshop price is for the workshop only and does not include lodging, meals, or transportation.
All participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
We reserve the right to cancel the workshop if the minimum number of registrations are not received. If we cancel, you will be given a full refund.
You can cancel up to 14 days prior to the workshop. We will refund your money minus a $10.00 processing fee.
