Spring in the upper midwest is a great time of year, and the perfect opportunity to photograph the horses, dogs and sheep at Riverside. This workshop takes place in a private setting along the banks of the Mississippi River.
We will be returning to Wisconsin to team up with Shirley Rensink of Riverside Collies and Mustangs to offer this great opportunity. Shirley uses a method called positive reinforcement training to train the previously wild mustangs. The affection shown between the horses and Shirley is nothing short of amazing.

This past year, there were two new additions to the herd of horses, as two of the mares gave birth to foals sired by the stallion Santana. These two horses are bundles of energy, and are a joy to watch.

Agenda:
Friday (6PM - 9:00PM):
We will begin with introductions, an orientation and safety lecture, and a review of the agenda. If time and conditions allow, we will do a sunset shoot.

Saturday (8AM - 7:30PM):
Saturday will consist of the following:

Traditional shots of the horses, dogs and sheep (and maybe even chickens)

Action shots of the horses and dogs jumping

Creative shots making use of motion and colored powder

Sunset over Lake Pepin
-
Light painting
-
Image reviews
Sunday (8AM - Noon):
Sunday begins with capturing more images of the horses out in the pasture. Mid-morning, we will spend some time with a final slide show

Join us for a fun weekend of photography.
What You Will Need:
This weekend is about getting great shots of the horses and the dogs. To make the most of the weekend, the following is recommended:

Sturdy Tripod - primarily for the evening shoots.

Remote Shutter Release - wired tend to work best.

Polarizer - to help remove the glare from the water and rocks and to bring out the fall colors.

Medium and long telephoto lenses. You will want to have lenses that will provide a range between 70 and at least 400 mm. I typically carry a 70-200 and a 200-500. Tamron makes a very good 150-600.

Microfiber Towel.

Rain Protection for Camera - unless it is lightning, we will shoot in the rain.

Rain Gear for you (in case of rain)

Boots that can deal with mud and muck. Depending on conditions, the pasture may be pretty muddy.

Layered Clothing (this time of year the weather can be pretty unpredictable, gloves and a hat are always a good idea.)

Depending upon conditions, Don may lead a night photography outing after dinner on Saturday. For those wanting to participate, bring a wide angle lens.

Location:
The weekend takes place near Pepin Wisconsin. For those opting to stay overnight in the area, we recommend staying in nearby Red Wing MN.

This workshop is jointly led by Don Tredinnick of Frozen Hiker Photography along with Barb Thompson from Twin Eyes Photography.

Workshop size is limited to 10 participants.

The workshop will take place rain or shine, so be sure to have the proper protection for yourself and your equipment.
Workshop price is for the workshop and lunch on Saturday only and does not include lodging, any other meals, or transportation.
All participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver.
We reserve the right to cancel the workshop if the minimum number of registrations are not received. If we cancel, you will be given a full refund.
You can cancel up to 21 days prior to the workshop. We will refund your money minus a $45.00 processing fee.
